Decorative solar: festoon strings, fairy lights, net and curtain lights, rope light, lanterns, stake and deck lights, and a few genuinely charming oddities — a wind chime light, a bird bath ring, a parasol ring.

None of this is functional lighting and none of it pretends to be. It is what you put up in May because the garden is suddenly somewhere you want to sit, and it costs very little. Bought in March or April it gives you the whole season.

The woven rattan and glass lanterns want bringing in over winter — not because they will fail outdoors, but because they last a great deal longer if you don't leave them out in February.
