Spike Spotlights and Uplighters
The workhorses. A spike spotlight pushes into the soil, aims at something, and does the most visible job in the garden; an in-ground uplighter does the same thing flush with the surface where a spike would be mown over or tripped on.
Choose the output by what you are lighting: 3W for pots and low planting, 6W for shrubs and small trees, 12W and 18W for mature trees and tall walls. Choose the beam by the shape of the target — narrow for a columnar tree or a tall trunk, standard for anything spreading. A narrow beam on a wide subject lights a stripe; a wide beam on a narrow one spills everywhere.
In-ground fittings need a drainage sleeve and shingle underneath, without exception. IP67 means the fitting survives immersion, not that it should live in a puddle — and that single detail is the difference between a ten-year fitting and a two-year one.
